About Nevada Opera

Founded in 1967 by Ted and Deena Puffer, Nevada Opera is Reno’s oldest performing arts organization and Nevada’s only professional opera company. Additionally, we provide a training ground for young artists at the local, national, and international levels. Nevada Opera contributes to the growing national perception of Reno as an arts and culture destination.  We are striving to keep opera current in our growing community by involving our youth in local productions through Rockin’ Opera, going into the schools with performances, and expanding community awareness of opera with the introduction of “Opera Shorts” (10 minute operas) at our Artown Renaissance Faire and Street Vibrations shows.

Mozart’s Giovanni – A Vampire Tale

Reno Tahoe Comedy presents the Nevada Opera’s Giovanni, A Vampire Tale! Join us on January 11th 2014 at the Pioneer Underground located at 100 South Virginia, St. in Reno, NV. Enjoy a great date night with full bar, no drink minimum, and nightly drink specials in a beautiful, smoke-free theater setting! The shows start at 12-noon and 3:00pm.vampire-poster-final

This abridged version, a vampire twist on Mozart’s comic melodrama Don Giovanni, stars local and locally grown talent from NVO’s Chorus and Young Artists Program.  This version is perfect for all vampire fans and will have new narration and dialogue.

Appealing to those with a passion for the current vampire vogue, this version is also more appropriate for a younger audience as it will explore Don Giovanni’s character and actions as a vampire instead of a seducer.  The smaller, more intimate location is perfect for the Vampire Tale.

Giovanni, A Vampire Tale is a concept developed by Monica Harte, Nevada Opera’s General and Artistic Director, and plays off the supernatural aspect of Mozart’s original Don Giovanni, in which the undead return. This production was postponed in April 2013 due a devastating and fatal drunk driving accident.  NVO is working with MADD and the Washoe County School District to spread the word to our community’s youngest drivers to refrain from driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and to join Nevada Opera’s “Have Fun Safely!” campaign.  Please visit NVO at
