Neal Long, Pianist

Neal D. Long is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno and holds a degree in Piano Performance (BM).  He studies piano with Dr. James Winn and has served as accompanist for several organizations and artists throughout Northern Nevada and California.  Neal is the pianist at South Reno United Methodist Church and enjoys teaching at Western Nevada College and the University of Nevada, Reno.   In the summer of 2013, he was invited to participate in the Saarburger Serenaden International Music Festival in Germany.  Neal joined Nevada Opera over 13 years ago as a member of the youth chorus and has since worked with the company in multiple capacities including adult chorus member of P’Opera, accompanist, music director, and tenor soloist.  Neal’s experience in the NVO youth program is a great strength as he has an understanding of the feelings these young performers may have as they begin their musical journey and will be an example to them of what can be if they stick to it.

The Nevada Opera’s (NVO) new production of Carmen on September 20th at 7:00 p.m. and 22nd at 1:00 p.m. 2013 celebrates Street Vibrations. Street Vibrations’ upbeat atmosphere will be the setting for this new version of this great opera.

NVO’s Carmen will remain true to the themes and the music, but like Bizet’s original Carmen, this version will use dialog. To create a viable production, we are using a new translation based on the original translation by Ted and Deena Puffer.

This incredible production will be designed and directed by Joachim Schamberger (director of NVO’s Sweeney Todd) with film, animation and local themes. Moreover, for this unique event, NVO will present this production in the Eldorado Showroom, modeled on a beautiful Opera House in Italy. The event will offer meal and show packages as well.

Be part of history; see this incredible new production of this great opera!
